The new Pentecost Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets here at Saint Matthew every second Sunday of the month. Our meetings consist of prayer and study followed by fellowship starting at 1:15 P.M.
The Secular Franciscan Order, formerly known as the Third Order, is an official order within the Catholic Church, established by Saint Francis himself, early in the thirteenth century. Ordinarily, we do not live in a community; rather we live with our families and perform our jobs out in the world, gathering in fraternities on a regular basis. By profession, we make lifetime promises to follow a Rule of Life approved and confirmed by Pope Paul VI in June of 1978. We live our faith going from Gospel to life and life to Gospel. Like St. Francis of Assisi, we should try to preach peace and repentance, promote justice, defend the rights of the human person, cherish the sick and the poor. It is said St. Francis most closely mirrored Christ. Come join us a see what it is all about.
Yours in St. Francis,
